Glossary
The words are load-bearing. Each of these names a mechanism, not a mood.
The product
| Word | What it means |
|---|---|
| Ståge | the agent and its surface. NAME = "Ståge" is display (the Nordic Å); ID = "staage" is the identifier — packages, directories, wire headers, USER_AGENT |
| resident | the agent as a thing that lives somewhere and is reached, rather than a session you start. Bay 336 of the Gala docking station, on the engine host |
| lane / thread | one conversation. A lane is the wire's word (an id, a seq, an epoch); a thread is the row and the thing a person sees. They are the same object at two layers |
| view | what a client holds. The phone holds views, not sessions — the thread lives on the host |
| the fold | how the roster is ordered: attention first (waiting → working → unread → settled), then activity descending |
activity | one daemon-global monotonic counter, carried on every roster row. seq is per-lane and incomparable, so cross-thread recency is this |
| attach / rehydrate | the act of opening a thread: the client asks for a snapshot, the host answers from the bounded per-lane journal, and says truncated = true when it cannot reach far enough |
| epoch | the identity of a stream's continuity. A restart creates a new epoch, rehydrated from disk |
The engine
| Word | What it means |
|---|---|
| the store | our SQLite database: our schema, migrations from the first commit, one connection, one writer |
| the bus | in-process fan-out (LaneBus). No broker. Events are persisted then fanned out, in that order |
| the surface | the piece that serves the wire to clients (DaemonSurface). It refuses rather than improvises |
| the Loom | the host-side half of rehydrate: the bounded per-lane journal and the surface in :core (dev.staage.loom) |
| turn / round | a turn is one prompt and everything it causes; a round is one provider exchange inside it |
| the deck | the waiting room. Approvals park there, and a child that cannot move without its parent asks there — the parent never sees the exchange |
| the desk / workdesk | the thread's one page: the procedure the reader follows while the work runs. A write replaces the page, never appends |
| the plan | the turn's spine: 1–5 steps, one active. A reading for the human, not an action; an abandoned step is sent as dropped |
| steering | the human's hand landing at a safe checkpoint, never between two wires |
| the stand-in | what answers when no client does, under a posture that decides what it may decide alone |
| Senses | the local, opt-in record of what this daemon actually did |
| profile | the turn's tool profile — which of the declared tools this turn may use |
Tools and delegation
| Word | What it means |
|---|---|
| the catalog | the single declaration of what the model may call. catalog (shown) and tools (dispatched) are two projections of one list |
| effect class | read · idempotent-write · reversible · irreversible. It describes how much effect an approved call has — not whether an approval is needed. Both ship on the descriptor, inside its digest |
| rail | one request/response read against something outside this machine, offered only when its credential exists. A rail that cannot answer is not declared |
| the Bank (Bluume) | the shared knowledge store the rails read: posts by slug, searched by meaning |
| the librarian | one approved hunt over the Bank from two to four angles at once, answered as a ranked manifest of slugs — a map, not the territory |
| child / envelope | a delegated thread and what it returns: status, taskId, childThreadId, summary, findings with refs, usage. A child is a contract, not a transcript |
| write child | a child that may change a file: a disposable worktree at clean HEAD, worktree-bound instruments only, and a diff with a digest — which it never applies |
| verifier | the independent reader of an artifact. The builder never certifies itself |
Discipline
| Word | What it means |
|---|---|
| gate | one script/check-*.sh. It compiles the shipped sources beside a harness and prints a receipt. A gate with no negative fixture is not a gate |
| mutation | a deliberately broken copy run against exactly one gate, to prove that gate can fail |
| smoke | a live run: a real credential, a real socket. Never part of check-all |
| receipt | the printed, quotable result of a run. What a claim is allowed to rest on |
| reading | a measurement taken this turn. State answers come from a reading, never from memory |
| probe | a reproduced question kept under probes/ with a five-week TTL: it either leaves or becomes a gate |
| the pin | the commit of the engine the phone is built against, substituted through a composite build |
| the go | the Commander's word — do it, go, го. The ask is the spec; a plan is one line and its first step happens now |
| the shelf | the append-only release directory the phone's self-update reads |
| mode | the client's Absolute or Zen: a mode changes what asks a human; it never changes what is allowed. Default Absolute, per lane |
